| Addictive sandy cookies. Beware of over indulging ! |
I used to
consume Horlicks, lots of it, as a before/after
school drink and recess snack in the form of Horlicks tablets. And when
deprived of Horlicks tablets, I would simply spoon the powder into my mouth to
feed my addiction. My mum saw with horror the self indulgence and thereafter
put me into cold turkey treatment. I did not see a single can of Horlicks in my
home until many years later.
Now that
I am boss of my own household ( actually
hubby is boss of major issues , I'm boss of minor problems. Since nothing much
happens at home, I'm mostly boss .. ), I am back with more creative ways to
consume this beverage. Good thing I
chanced upon this recipe at this blogger's
archive , which is reliable and tested ) and happily reproduced it without the
bells and whistles . Needless to say, down the food chain, I made many people
happy and instant Horlicks fans !
Recipe
from happyhomebaking.blogspot.com. Slight adaptation made by this baker.
Ingredients:
(makes about 50 cookies)
180g butter, soften
at room temperature
80g Horlicks
210g cake flour
25g corn flour
25g milk powder
50 chocolate buttons
Method:
Pre-heat oven to
140deg C. Line baking tray with greased paper . Set aside.
Combine and sieve
cake flour, corn flour and milk powder. Set aside.
Cream butter and
Horlicks until mixture is just combined.
Add dry ingredients . Mix to form dough. You may
need to manually knead to form a dough ball.
Using a 1/2 Tsp
measuring spoon as mould, fill it with dough and push a chocolate button into
the dough. Seal and knock out the cookie. It yields about 10g of dough
excluding the chocolate button. ( needless to say, my choc buttons were
generous in size )
Bake at 140 deg C
for about 25 minutes. The cookie should be slightly tanned but not brown.
Cool cookies
thoroughly before storing.
